Lake Placid est une ville américaine dans l'État de New York au milieu des montagnes Adirondacks.

Histoire

Le lac Placid

Fondée au début du XIXe siècle pour les besoins des mines de fer qui venaient d'être découvertes, elle doit son nom au lac homonyme et adjacent à la ville.

Elle a accueilli deux fois les Jeux olympiques d'hiver en 1932 et 1980 ainsi que les Championnats du monde de ski nordique 1980.

Démographie

Elle comptait environ 2 638 habitants en 2000.

Économie

Lake Placid est une ville essentiellement orientée vers le tourisme (située au milieu du parc fédéral des Adirondacks) et les sports d'hiver. Un aéroport, Lake Placid Airport (LKP), est au sud de la ville.
